Why the Pursuit of Happiness Doesn’t Exist

Seeking and searching for happiness is very similar to the times when you are looking all over the place for your glasses, keys, or phone, only to realize that it’s been in your hand or on your head all this time.

You may feel relieved, because you never lost these items you were looking for. You may also feel silly, because you put in so much effort into finding the things you had with you the entire time. The same is for the pursuit of happiness.

We all have been taught since our earliest days in our life that happiness is a pursuit, and we all should be seeking and searching for this mysterious something that could be right around the corner. We don’t know what happiness looks like, and we aren’t even sure what it would truly feel like, but we want to find it and keep it forever.

On my journey awakening my self-love and self-validation, I have found the truth of what happiness really is. Happiness is not a pursuit. You will not find happiness if you are seeking and searching outside of yourself.

Happiness is allowing yourself to feel gratitude and joy within this single, present moment.

We have been told that if we try hard enough, and if we put in enough effort, we will discover this mysterious something called happiness. Happiness does not know of this concept we call effort. When we make this effort, who is it we are working so hard for? Are we putting in the work and investing our energy into accomplishments and achievements which we hope will result in acceptance, love, and validation from other people and from the entire world? Are we committing to our effort for only ourselves?

When we try to seek and search for acceptance, love, and validation from those around us in our social circle (our families, friends, neighbors, co-workers, teammates, social media friends/ followers, bosses, coaches, people walking down the street, and people who we haven’t even met yet), we will not capture and lasso up this mysterious something called happiness. Because happiness only exists from within.

Gratitude and joy already exist within our body and soul. Our mind has gotten used to overanalyzing the present moment and all the things that we think are wrong or negative about our current reality.

We’ve structured our mind into the belief that once we have this, or once we do that, we will receive this mysterious something called happiness in exchange for our effort. Our mind is programmed into believing that as soon as we have what we want and experience that we think will create happiness for us that this mysterious something will finally knock on our door, and we will finally meet happiness like when Dorothy discovered who The Wizard of Oz was behind the curtain. But when we finally meet happiness, and we pull back the curtain and reveal what this mysterious something really is, that which has been hidden behind that curtain all this time was really ourselves.

We are in control of experiencing our own happiness. Happiness already exists within us, in our body and mind, as gratitude and joy for the present moment.

We awaken our happiness when we restructure our mind into 1) believing that we deserve this happiness, 2) remembering that the experience of happiness will not arrive when we are seeking and searching for it externally, and 3) allowing ourselves to feel gratitude and joy right now.

Major blockages that prevent us from feeling gratitude and joy come from unhealed past traumatized selves/ inability to let go of the past, fear/ resistance to future opportunities, and the horrible, self-limiting belief that we do not deserve to allow ourselves to feel gratitude and joy.

Happiness is a state of being that you discover when you love yourself enough that you allow for gratitude and joy to grow from the bottom of your stomach, reach up the top of your head, and explode like a single, vibrant firework. This state of being may arrive for just a moment and then, quickly leave, but you can always awaken happiness from within by practicing gratitude and opening yourself up to the present moment.

Happiness becomes easier to awaken the more you discover about who you really are and practice self-love and self-validation. The first step is believing that you deserve self-love and self-validation. After this initial step, it may be difficult and painful to heal past trauma and negative programmed beliefs you’ve become used to, but I promise that once you clear these blockages from your mind, body, and soul, it becomes much easier to find that mysterious something called happiness that you’ve always had with you and you always will have.

Thank you for reading today, and I hope this post has helped you learn how to create your own reality with the power of genuine, unconditional self-love. Have a great day, and I know you can create something miraculous.

    1. Thank you for the follow! Yes, we are unhappy, because we aren’t connected to ourselves, and we feel powerless over our external environment. We have complete control over how we interact and engage in our external reality through our mindset and output of energy.
